Synopsis: Europe, during World War I. Frederick, an American ambulance driver serving in the Italian Army, and English nurse Catherine love each other more than anything. But Major Rinaldi envies their relationship and has Catherine transferred to Milan. Nowpregnant Catherine settles in Switzerland, and when her many letters to Henry remain unanswered, she assumes he has abandoned her.
